Dykes had 17 kills against K-M, Schoenfelder 14. As good as Rylee Nelson is, the Cougars also have stars in Natalie Dykes and Megan Schoenfelder, to name just two. 3-ranked Kasson-Mantorville (Class AAA) 3-2, then followed that up two matches later by beating No. Z-M has won 13 straight matches, two of them of the “wow" variety. Now, she is making so many of those decisions on her own.” At the beginning of the season, we had to talk her through some things. “Falon is really growing in her set selection, knowing which of our athletes are ‘on’ and where our best matchups are. “I’ve been so impressed with her composure on the court and her athleticism,” Huseth said. She’s not Winchell yet, but seems on that path, especially with her rapid improvement the last half of the season. Hepola has arrived like manna from the heavens for this team. Turns out that Huseth had a heck of a replacement coming for Winchell. “Right now, just looking at where we were at the beginning of the season compared to now, it seems each game we’ve played better than the last,” Cannon Falls coach Melissa Huseth said. 3-ranked team in the state in Class AAA.Ĭannon Falls is ranked sixth in Class AA. The best evidence has been what they’ve shown the last two weeks, winning eight of their last 10 matches, including a head-turning 3-2 triumph over Kasson-Mantorville, the No. 9/10.This season it has been the Bombers’ assignment to take their steps without their all-everything, Winchell.īelieve it or not, they’ve done it. Like I said, it was quite a daring thing to do, so the fact that it doesn't work out perfectly doesn't harm the film too much. These exchanges get a little ponderous as a result, and the only thing that keeps the sequence alive is Raben's score. I think Fassbinder has a difficult time making the questions and answers meaningful for the film as a whole. The eight characters split into two groups, the first picks a person in the house and the second has to guess after they've asked a certain number of questions. The titular game is an interesting idea to do on film. Peer Raben's gorgeous and unique music also should be pointed out. When the four lovers meet, Fassbinder circles the camera around them as they pace around each other, creating a dizzying dance. The simple set might be called stagey by those who are not paying enough attention. His framing is so complex, but it's invented to look simple. She uses no euphemisms: her daughter, she believes, has ruined her life.įassbinder's direction is exquisite. At one point, as she sees her daughter lumbering along on her crutches from a second story window, she picks up a pistol and aims it at her daughter's back. Mother, on the other hand, is quite the psycho. The parents get the most time father is loving in his way, but his love is probably only a result of the guilty feelings he has towards his daughter. With the situation as it is, their true characters quickly rise to the surface. Kast is played by Brigitte Mira, who was so wonderful two years earlier in Fassbinder's Fear Eats the Soul. Kast and her blonde son, Gabriel, take care of the mansion, cook, and so forth. A bit later the daughter arrives with her caretaker (and possibly her lover?) who is deaf and mute. When the father arrives with his lover (Anna Karina, in a very quiet role), he finds his wife pinned to the floor by her boy toy. This one sets up a great tragicomic situation: a disabled teenager manipulates her parents each to bring their lover to their summer mansion for the weekend. Like most Fassbinder films, it's seemingly simple, but there's a lot too it when you walk a bit closer.
